The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has thrown out a request from King Faisal FC to suspend the decisions the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Annual Congress made in August.
In the case of King Faisal vs GFA, the club asked CAS for a stay of execution after filing an appeal on September 1, 2025.
The Kumasi-based side challenged several resolutions the August 12 Congress in Prampram adopted, but their attempt to freeze them failed.
Delivering the ruling, Mrs. Corinne Schmidhauser, President of CAS’s Appeals Arbitration Division, stressed that interim relief can only be granted if three key conditions are met.
Proof of irreparable harm, a likelihood of success in the main appeal, and stronger interests on the applicant’s side compared to the respondent.
CAS ruled that King Faisal failed to satisfy any of those conditions.
“The Appellant has not even alleged, let alone established, that it meets the requirements under Article R37(5) of the Code,” the order stated.
The decision means all resolutions passed by the GFA Congress on August 12 remain valid and enforceable.
CAS also said it will decide the costs of the order in its final award at the end of the arbitration.
For now, the showdown of King Faisal vs GFA continues. But the club’s bid to put the brakes on Congress decisions has suffered a major blow.
