FC Bayern Dominates Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga Showdown
FC Bayern asserted their dominance by decisively defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 during the sixth matchday of the Bundesliga. Here are three significant insights from the game.
1. Kompany’s Impact: More Than Just Stats
Bayern Munich is generating remarkable statistics under coach Vincent Kompany. The squad has achieved ten victories out of their first ten competitive matches. As of the sixth matchday, they have netted 25 goals, establishing a new record in the Bundesliga. This marks the first time since 2020 that Bayern has won eight consecutive Bundesliga matches over multiple seasons. While they remain formidable at home, their away performance is equally impressive: Bayern has not suffered a loss in any of its 12 Bundesliga away games in 2025.
With each match, new records are being set. It’s a stark contrast to the insecurity that plagued the team towards the end of Thomas Tuchel’s tenure. Now, they appear to be pulling away in the Bundesliga standings.
Much of this transformation can be attributed to Kompany. He has earned respect for his strong work ethic and has also connected well with the players, significantly enhancing the team’s atmosphere, which had been criticized during Tuchel’s time.
Captain Jonathan Tah noted after the match, “Every player feels integral to the team. The coach communicates effectively and excels in this role. Everyone is willing to give their all for him and for each other. We motivate one another.”
Currently, players express nothing but positive sentiments regarding Kompany. Despite all the accolades, he maintains a humble demeanor, choosing not to seek the limelight. “I approach praise and criticism in the same way — I stay grounded,” Kompany stated. “What matters now is focusing on our next match against Dortmund,” a contest that presents yet another chance to set further records.
2. Diaz Shines Bright
Luis Diaz was named Man of the Match in Frankfurt and has quickly become a fan favorite since joining Bayern.
Diaz’s statistics in the Bundesliga are impressive: six matches, five goals, and four assists. Notably, he has been a starter for every competitive match this season, alongside Harry Kane as an essential player. Diaz opened the scoring early and capped off the match with a stunning strike to make it 3-0.
Kompany praised him for his performance, saying, “Considering this is his debut season in Germany, his impact has been significant. His energy and activity align perfectly with what the team needs. He’s consistently involved and puts in great effort for the squad.”
Sporting director Max Eberl added, “It’s incredible how he commits to the team, both offensively and defensively. That’s precisely the quality we wanted him to bring.”
Initially, there were doubts surrounding the acquisition of Diaz due to his age—28 and the perceived high transfer fee. Critics suggested that a portion of the fee was for another player, Florian Wirtz, who was initially seen as Bayern’s priority.
However, Diaz has proven his worth, whereas Wirtz has struggled. Clearly, bringing Diaz to Munich has been an exceptional decision.
3. Goretzka’s Future in Doubt
Despite Bayern’s impressive display against Frankfurt, one player who fell short of expectations was Leon Goretzka.
The midfielder struggled to make an impact throughout the match, only becoming notable for receiving a yellow card for arguing after a clear handball by Doan. His actions were deemed unnecessary, especially as only the captain is permitted to communicate with the referee.
A defensive midfielder should be cautious about receiving bookings, yet Goretzka’s tendency to register minimal involvement in attacking plays has become concerning. He tends to rely on rudimentary, short passes and often fails to position himself effectively to assist in build-up plays. This trend continued against Frankfurt, leading to him being substituted at halftime.
Such underwhelming performances have led to speculation about Goretzka’s future with the team. Although he has been praised publicly for his work ethic, critics note that simply maintaining professionalism is the baseline expectation for someone earning a top salary.
Recent years have seen Goretzka deliver lackluster performances, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, reports suggest that Bayern is unlikely to offer him an extension. Young talents like Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tom Bischof are poised to emerge in his role. Meanwhile, Joshua Kimmich consistently demonstrates how a player at this pay level should lead. Under these circumstances, it seems Goretzka may not have a long-term future at FC Bayern.
