Katsina United FC has hit back at reports claiming their fans attacked Barau FC midfielder Nana Kwame Abraham during their NPFL game in Katsina, calling the allegations “false, baseless, and misleading.”
In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, the club accused an online platform of spreading unverified and damaging information about last weekend’s match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
“No supporter gained access to the pitch at any time,” Katsina United said. “The game, though tense after some officiating decisions, stayed under control and within security limits.”
The club condemned what it called “mischievous journalism,” saying the report tarnished the image of both the team and Nigerian football. Katsina United demanded an immediate public apology from the outlet and threatened legal action if the false story remained online.
“Publishing such claims without verification hurts football’s growth in Katsina State and across Nigeria,” the statement read.
Katsina United also pointed a finger at Barau FC, accusing the visitors of amplifying the false narrative. The club said it had referred the issue to the League Management Body for investigation.
However, the Katsina-based outfit did not clarify what actually happened during the match or address the condition of Nana Kwame Abraham, who was reportedly injured in the incident.
Despite the controversy, the club reaffirmed its commitment to “professionalism, discipline, and fair play on and off the field.”
