Kalvin Phillips: Sheffield United Eager to Be a Potential Destination for Midfielder
Sheffield United Eager to Secure Kalvin Phillips
Interest in the Manchester City Midfielder
Sheffield United’s manager Chris Wilder has expressed a keen interest in reuniting with Kalvin Phillips, currently of Manchester City, for the upcoming season. This interest comes despite Phillips’ recent struggles with injuries and suspensions during his loan stint.
Limited Appearances
The 30-year-old midfielder joined the Championship side on transfer deadline day in February but has managed to participate in only three matches. He received a red card during a derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday on February 22, and has been sidelined since due to a knee injury following his suspension.
Background of Phillips’ Transfer
Phillips made the move to Manchester City from Leeds United for a significant fee of £45 million with a six-year contract starting in July 2022. However, he has found it challenging to secure a starting position, with only two Premier League appearances under his belt for Pep Guardiola’s team.
Wilder’s Comments
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Wilder noted, “He’ll attract plenty of interest moving forward. We brought in a fantastic professional who faced unfortunate injuries and hasn’t played as much as he hoped. I’ve had a conversation with him and made it clear we’re keen to be an option should that opportunity arise.”
Wilder added that Phillips possesses the right qualities both on and off the pitch, stating, “If there’s a chance, I am certain we will look into it.”
Phillips’ Potential Return and Career Overview
Wilder also hinted that Phillips could make a return to the team, which has seen a downturn in form, slipping to 17th place after failing to win in the last six matches. Phillips previously had loan spells in the Premier League with West Ham and Ipswich before moving to Sheffield United. In total, he has made 46 league appearances since joining Manchester City nearly four years ago.
