Ward-Prowse Transfers to Burnley on Loan for the Season
Player Movement
West Ham’s midfielder, James Ward-Prowse, has officially signed on loan with Burnley until the conclusion of the ongoing season.
Career Overview
Ward-Prowse, age 31, transitioned to West Ham from Southampton in August 2023 and has since participated in 78 matches for the Hammers. He had a brief loan to Nottingham Forest during the 2024-25 season, where he featured in 10 games under manager Nuno Espirito Santo; however, that stint was cut short during January’s transfer period.
Recent Performance and Management Changes
Previously, he was a mainstay under former West Ham manager Graham Potter, making six appearances this season until Potter’s dismissal in September. Since Nuno has taken over at West Ham, Ward-Prowse has not seen any game time.
Current Team Status
As it stands, Burnley is positioned at 19th in the Premier League, with a 10-point gap separating them from safety after ending their latest match in a 2-2 stalemate against Tottenham. In contrast, West Ham sits five points above Burnley in 18th place.
New Additions
Burnley’s manager, Scott Parker, recently acquired 18-year-old defender Cameron Scott from Rangers and has now strengthened the squad further with the addition of experienced player Ward-Prowse.
Player Comments
Ward-Prowse expressed enthusiasm about his move, stating, “Once I learned of Burnley’s interest and talked with the manager, I realized this loan would be exactly what I needed.” He added, “There’s a significant struggle ahead between now and the season’s end, but I’m eager to embrace every moment.”
Background
Ward-Prowse started his career in Southampton’s youth academy, making a total of 410 appearances for the club before transferring to West Ham.
