Inter Milan’s Mkhitaryan Reveals How Mourinho Made His Manchester United Experience Dreadful

Mkhitaryan Reflects on Departure from Manchester United
Inter Milan’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan has shared his experiences regarding his exit from Manchester United in a newly released book, which is available in Italy.
Insights from His Final Days at United
In his memoir, Mkhitaryan recounts the turbulent final months of his time at United, highlighting his strained relationship with former manager Jose Mourinho.
He recalled a heated exchange, stating, “I informed him that he had been criticizing me consistently for a year and a half since my arrival at Manchester United. Mourinho called me ‘s’ and I lost my composure, responding, ‘You are the s. An enormous one.’”
Tensions with Mourinho
Mkhitaryan detailed how the confrontations escalated, sharing that Mourinho retorted, “Get out of here, I never want to see you again.”
He noted that during training, Mourinho maintained a silent treatment towards him, yet would contact him nightly via WhatsApp, insisting, “Miki, leave, please.”
Mkhitaryan explained, “The situation had become absurd. I would consistently reply with the same response: I will depart if I find the right team; otherwise, I will wait until summer.”
By mid-January, the messages shifted slightly, with Mourinho asking him to leave so that he could acquire Alexis Sanchez.
Mkhitaryan’s response to the request evolved as well: “I am not leaving just to help you out. Please stop messaging me. If you want to discuss this, speak to Mino.”
In closing, he humorously remarked, “And everyone lived happily ever after.”
