Injury Worries Mount For Orlando Pirates Ahead Of Sundowns Showdown

Orlando Pirates face a tricky selection puzzle ahead of their highly anticipated weekend clash with Mamelodi Sundowns, as several first-team players remain doubtful for the encounter.

The Buccaneers could be without up to five key players, including Relebohile Mofokeng, Tapelo Xoki, and Deano van Rooyen, whose fitness will be assessed closer to kickoff.

Meanwhile, Thabiso Sesane and Selaelo Rasebotja are confirmed absentees as they continue to recover from long-term injuries.

“There are no fresh injury concerns despite a highly physical clash on Saturday, while the likes of Selaelo Rasebotja and Thabiso Sesane continue to work their way back to full fitness after their injury spells,” the club said ahead of their 2-1 Telkom Knockout quarter-final victory over Magesi.

Pirates’ form heading into the Sundowns game remains encouraging.

Goals from Tshepang Moremi and Evidence Makgopa sealed their progress in the cup competition, with Makgopa once again proving his worth on the big stage despite limited starts for Bafana Bafana.

A win against the reigning champions would see Pirates draw level on points with Sundowns, while still holding a game in hand.

All eyes will be on whether young stars Mofokeng and Tito Maswanganyi get the nod to start in what promises to be one of the most thrilling fixtures of the season.
