Thanksgiving Service at Imam Malik Mosque Celebrates Black Stars’ World Cup Qualification
Special Gathering for Gratitude
On Friday, October 24, 2025, a heartfelt thanksgiving service was conducted at the Imam Malik Hamburg Mosque in Maamobi to express appreciation to Allah for the Black Stars’ successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The event attracted prominent figures from Ghana football, including:
- Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku – President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)
- Michael Osekre – Chief of Staff
- Eugene Noel Nobel – Executive Council Member
- Ama Brobey-Williams – Deputy General Secretary
- Jamil Maraby – Director of Marketing
- Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe – Head of PR and Strategy
Numerous notable individuals from the football community were also present, such as:
- John Ansah – Chairman of GHALCA
- Alhaji Brimah Akanbi – Director of Accra Hearts of Oak
- Abdullah Waheed (Abu Sondonko) – President of Tudu Mighty Jets
- Jiji Mohammed Alifoe – President of Dreams FC
- Prince Abdul Hamid – Vice President
They were joined by other FA staff and the Ghana Supporters Union, led by President Moro Issaka Polo.
Acknowledgment from Religious Leaders
The GFA delegation received a warm welcome from the mosque’s leaders, including Sheikh Zakariah Addo, Malam Abdul Razak Iddriss, and Alhaji Iddriss Yusif (Cliff). The religious figures praised the FA’s initiative in revitalizing Ghanaian football and offered prayers for the Black Stars and all national teams to achieve further success.
President Okraku’s Remarks
In his speech, President Kurt Okraku expressed genuine gratitude to the Muslim community for their steadfast prayers and support during the qualification journey. He encouraged continued prayers for the Black Stars as Ghana gears up for the World Cup in 2026.
The mosque leaders assured the FA of their ongoing support and commended the Association for its accomplishments, including the qualification of the Black Starlets for the U17 AFCON, the commendable performances of the Black Queens, and President Okraku’s recent appointment as CAF 2nd Vice President.
Upcoming Interfaith Celebration
This thanksgiving service is part of an interfaith celebration organized by the GFA to commemorate Ghana’s World Cup qualification, with a Christian service planned for Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the Christ the King Anglican Church in Sakumono.
