Hurzeler Discloses Brightons Interest in Gross: Im a Fan and Weve Been in Touch

Brighton Prepares for Crucial Clash Against Burnley

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler addressed the media as his team gears up to meet Burnley this weekend.

Current Standing

Brighton has managed to secure just one defeat in their nine home games this season and currently sits in 14th place with a total of 25 points. In contrast, Burnley finds itself struggling at 19th, having earned only 12 points after a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United. Brighton will be eager to secure a valuable three points during this matchup.

Injury Updates

Hurzeler provided updates on player fitness, starting with Yankuba Minteh, who could potentially participate this weekend despite ongoing injury worries.

“The scan results were positive. We’ll assess how he performs in training today before deciding if he can start tomorrow.”

Regarding Mats Wieffer, he noted: “He’s dealing with a minor toe issue and won’t be available for the match, but I’m hopeful it’s not too serious.”

On Kaoru Mitoma’s situation, he stated, “I believe he can be included in the lineup. He had a good impact when he came off the bench and we recognize his talent; we’re pleased to have him back.”

Potential Return of Pascal Gross

Hurzeler also discussed the possibility of re-signing Pascal Gross, who left for Borussia Dortmund in August 2024. He did not completely dismiss the idea of a transfer in January.

“I hold him in high regard as a player. Even after he left, we kept in touch, hoping he might stay, but he chose to pursue his aspirations, which we respect. We’ve continued to monitor his progress because he made significant contributions to our club. We value him greatly.”

“He’s a tremendous player, known for scoring and assisting goals; however, it’s crucial to acknowledge that when he departed, we did bring in replacements. Some younger players stepped up and made their mark, which allowed us to adapt. While we felt his absence, we successfully integrated younger talent into the squad.”

Brighton has recorded draws in their past two home fixtures, and a victory this weekend could elevate them to as high as 8th place in the league, narrowly edging out clubs like Everton as they aim for a competitive European spot.
