Egypt Football Association (EFA) President Hani Abou Rida has confirmed that national team coach Hossam Hassan will remain in charge of the Pharaohs after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, regardless of the team’s performance in Morocco.
“Hossam Hassan will continue after the Africa Cup of Nations regardless of the team’s results in the tournament,” Abou Rida said during a broadcast on EFA channels.
The 59-year-old tactician, appointed in February 2024, has led Egypt to AFCON qualification and brought them within touching distance of a 2026 World Cup spot.
Abou Rida revealed that long-term planning remains central to their partnership.
“I always speak with him about his preparation plan for the World Cup,” he added.
The Pharaohs will face Djibouti on Wednesday before clashing with Guinea-Bissau four days later, needing just two points to confirm their qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Abou Rida reaffirmed his trust in the former Egyptian striker and his technical team, urging them to focus on their work.
“I always support the national team’s technical staff,” he said. “I tell them: just do your work, I’m behind you.”
Egypt, drawn in Group B with South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe, will aim to go far at AFCON 2025, which runs from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
