Hamann Predicts Man City’s Haaland Will Succeed Lewandowski After Barcelona Departure

Hamann backs Man City's Haaland to replace Lewandowski once he leaves Barcelona

Dietmar Hamann Endorses Erling Haaland as Potential Lewandowski Successor at Barcelona

Ex-Bayern Munich midfielder Dietmar Hamann has expressed his support for Manchester City’s forward Erling Haaland as a fitting replacement for Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona.

Haaland’s Potential Transfer to Barcelona

Recently, reports emerged indicating that Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta, along with sporting director Deco, are eager to secure the signing of City’s star striker Haaland, who has established himself as one of the premier forwards in global football.

Lewandowski’s contract is set to end next summer, and given that he will be turning 37, it seems probable that he will depart as a free agent while the La Liga club seeks to acquire another elite attacker.

Haaland’s Impressive Record

Last season, Haaland struck 22 goals in the Premier League, even as Manchester City finished third in the league standings. Discussing this development with Grosvenor Casino, Hamann shared his thoughts with GOAL, suggesting that Barcelona is likely to make a significant offer for the 25-year-old.

“Clearly, they face challenges with registering new players, so I’m uncertain whether they could register Haaland. Nonetheless, this situation is probably a few years out,” Hamann noted.

“Lewandowski managed to succeed there, and I initially doubted he would score as many goals as he did. The Bundesliga’s physicality is quite similar to that of the Premier League. I believe that scoring goals in Spain may become easier once a player surpasses 30, compared to Germany or, certainly, England. So, I can envisage that happening.”

He added, “If it serves as a temporary solution, it would certainly be a positive one, considering Harry Kane’s proven track record. Given their financial struggles, they have a few years to sort things out if they genuinely want to explore bringing Haaland to Barcelona. Therefore, I can definitely see this happening.”

Haaland’s Success and High Transfer Fee

Haaland has already clinched two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy under Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. There is speculation that he might be inclined to move to La Liga if Barcelona proceeds with an official offer. However, any potential transfer fee would exceed £100 million, raising questions about whether Barcelona’s current financial situation could accommodate such an expenditure.
