Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi suffered what appears to be a serious injury during his side’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
The Moroccan full-back, who turned 27 on the same day, was left in tears after a reckless challenge from Luis Diaz late in the first half.
Diaz, who had earlier doubled Bayern’s lead at the Parc des Princes, turned villain moments later with a dangerous lunge on Hakimi.
The referee initially brandished a yellow card, but after a VAR review, the Colombian’s punishment was upgraded to a straight red.
Hakimi was in distress on the turf and needed assistance to leave the pitch.
Following the game, he was seen exiting the stadium on crutches and wearing a protective boot, deepening fears that his injury could sideline him for an extended period.
The timing couldn’t be worse for both PSG and Morocco, with the Africa Cup of Nations set to kick off in December on Moroccan soil.
PSG are now awaiting medical results to confirm the extent of the injury.
Meanwhile, PSG suffered a 2-1 defeat to the German giants.
