Hafiz Gariba’s journey from Teshie, Ghana, to FC Barcelona shows his strong determination and steady progress.
At 18, the young defender stands out in Barcelona’s Juvenil A team.
Gariba began his football path in Teshie, playing on local pitches. His talent quickly drew attention.
He left Ghana early to join the Marcet Academy in Barcelona, where he learned discipline and tactical awareness.
“Here, they call me after matches to explain what I need to improve,” he said.
Before joining Barcelona, Gariba played for Club Esportiu Codolar, a small club from the Carmelo area.
The team competed in the Catalan fourth division.
His strong performances helped Codolar earn promotion, and Barcelona scouts soon noticed him.
At the end of last season, he signed for Barcelona’s Juvenil A team under coach Pol Planas.
Gariba adjusted fast and became a reliable starter. In his first nine matches, he played 607 minutes and scored one goal.
He also featured in the Catalan Cup with Barça Atlético, showing maturity beyond his age.
Gariba looks up to Barcelona legend Carles Puyol. “My favourite player has always been Puyol.
I want to keep learning and prove myself,” he said.
Now with the reserve team, Gariba continues his progress with focus and humility.
The club’s technical staff believe in his long-term potential.
His goal is to break into the first team soon.
Coaches praise his leadership, strength, and clear understanding of defensive play.
His calm presence and hunger to improve set him apart from his peers.
From the dusty fields of Teshie to Barcelona’s world-class academy, Gariba’s story inspires young African players.
His hard work and focus could make him one of Ghana’s next big football talents.
