Habib Beye faces rising pressure at Stade Rennais after a disappointing start to the Ligue 1 season.
The Senegalese coach has won only one of his last six league matches, prompting sharp criticism from media and fans.
Daniel Riolo, an RMC Sport commentator, expressed doubt about Beye’s future. “Habib Beye at Rennes is dead.
That’s what I think,” Riolo said. He claimed that Beye has lost the trust of key players Brice Samba and Seko Fofana.
The reported tension adds to the growing concern around the Rennes dressing room.
Football journalist Pierre Ménès offered a calmer view. He said Beye still has time to fix the situation but warned that the team must react quickly.
“I don’t think Beye is in danger, but his team must wake up,” Ménès stated.
Ménès criticised Rennes for repeatedly wasting strong positions in matches. He mentioned their 2-0 lead against Le Havre that ended in a frustrating collapse.
“That end to the match was inexplicable and inexcusable,” he said.
He also challenged Beye’s approach. “Habib enjoys the microphones, but he must remember he’s a coach, not a consultant,” Ménès remarked. “He needs to deliver results, not headlines.”
The journalist questioned Beye’s tactics and team choices. “Defensively, the team looks fragile,” he said. “The midfield lacks balance, and leaving Ludovic Blas on the bench makes no sense.”
Ménès also doubted the attacking pair of Esteban Lepaul and Breel Embolo. “Even if they scored, I don’t see them leading Rennes to Europe,” he added.
Rennes now sit mid-table and must respond fast to avoid further pressure. Beye’s leadership faces its hardest test yet as critics demand results.
