Guendouzi Eyes Premier League Return: Midfielder Seeks Greater Ambitions Beyond Sunderland

Matteo Guendouzi Poised for Premier League Comeback

A Return to England After Five Years

Matteo Guendouzi is preparing to make his return to the Premier League, five years after his departure from Arsenal.

The 26-year-old midfielder has developed his career in Italy with Lazio after initially joining Marseille on loan from Arsenal. During his time in Marseille, he made an impressive 103 appearances.

Transfer Interest from Sunderland

Sunderland’s head coach Regis Le Bris, who previously managed the midfielder in Lorient’s reserve team, has been linked with Guendouzi. Journalist Giulio Cardone revealed on RadioSei that Sunderland has made a significant bid of £21.4 million for the Frenchman, although he declined the offer.

“Sunderland put forward a considerable offer for Guendouzi, amounting to €25 million (£21.4 million). Guendouzi is keen on returning to England,” Cardone reported.

When inquired if the player desired a move back to the English league, Cardone confirmed his interest but added that Guendouzi prefers a different destination than Sunderland. “He is looking for something more,” Cardone emphasized.

These remarks might be disheartening for Sunderland supporters, especially as their team has been promoted to the Premier League and currently ranks above notable teams such as Tottenham and Liverpool in ninth place.

Reflections on His Time at Arsenal

Following his exit from Arsenal, Guendouzi acknowledged making mistakes under manager Mikel Arteta but expressed no regrets about his experience at the club.

“I only had a short period of six months working with Arteta when I was 19, and I was still learning. I wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes I made then,” he stated.

He further added, “I hold no regrets regarding my time at Arsenal. At 19, I played 85 matches in two years. That’s a considerable amount for a prestigious club like Arsenal.”
