GPL Matchday 5 Preview: Medeama Host Struggling Dreams, Hearts Battle Leaders Lions

The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL) enters Matchday 5 with several intriguing fixtures lined up across the country.
Medeama SC vs Dreams FC (Friday)
Medeama SC will aim to maintain their strong start to the campaign when they host Dreams FC at the T&A Stadium.
The Mauve and Yellow have picked up nine points from four matches, scoring eight goals and conceding just two.
After bouncing back from their loss in Tamale with a 2–1 victory over Nations FC, they’ll fancy their chances at home.
Dreams FC, meanwhile, remain winless with only one point so far, struggling in attack and defense.
The Dawu-based club have lost five of their last seven away matches and desperately need a turnaround.
Vision FC vs Bibiani GoldStars (Saturday)
Vision FC return to the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex eager to make home advantage count against Bibiani GoldStars.
The hosts were left frustrated after a 1–1 draw at Dreams FC but remain unbeaten in their last two home games.
GoldStars come into this fixture after a narrow midweek defeat to Asante Kotoko, which ended their brief unbeaten streak.
Now out of continental competition, the defending champions are focused solely on domestic success. Both teams are separated by just a point, setting up a balanced encounter.
Nations FC vs Asante Kotoko (Saturday)
Nations FC will seek redemption after last week’s 2–1 loss to Medeama SC as they welcome Asante Kotoko to the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
The Kumasi-based side have endured a sluggish start, collecting just four points from four games.
Asante Kotoko, however, are in good spirits after a midweek 1–0 win over GoldStars kept their unbeaten record intact.
The Porcupine Warriors boast one of the league’s best defenses, yet to concede this season.
Coach Abdul Karim Zito will expect his side to keep that discipline intact in this tricky away tie.
Young Apostles vs Basake Holy Stars (Sunday)
Young Apostles are enjoying a promising start, winning two of their opening four games.
The Sunyani-based side will look to capitalize on home advantage against a struggling Basake Holy Stars side.
Holy Stars are rooted near the relegation zone and are yet to record a win this season.
They have struggled both offensively and defensively, scoring just once so far. Apostles will fancy their chances of adding more misery to the visitors.
Karela United vs Berekum Chelsea (Sunday)
Karela United will be out to make amends following a disappointing 4–1 defeat to Hohoe United last weekend.
The Pride and Passion Boys had started the season strongly but were undone by defensive lapses. Berekum Chelsea, on the other hand, come into the tie buoyed by their first win of the campaign against Holy Stars.
Both sides have been inconsistent, making this a potential thriller in Aiyinase. Victory for either team could spark a climb up the mid-table standings.
Aduana FC vs Bechem United (Sunday)
Aduana FC will look to bounce back from their loss to Samartex when they welcome Bechem United to Dormaa.
The Ogya Boys have six points from four matches and will be confident of exploiting Bechem’s shaky form.
The Hunters remain winless this season, sitting 15th with just two points. Coach Kassim Mingle’s men will need a strong response to silence growing pressure.
A defeat here could further deepen Bechem’s early-season woes.
Samartex vs Eleven Wonders (Sunday)
After securing their first win of the campaign against Aduana FC, FC Samartex will aim to build on that momentum at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena.
The Timber Giants had drawn their first three games before that narrow victory.
Eleven Wonders, meanwhile, are bottom of the table with only one point and struggling to adapt to life in the top flight.
Coach Nii Odartey Lamptey will be hoping his side can turn the corner soon. Anything less than a point could see them fall further adrift.
Hohoe United vs Swedru All Blacks (Sunday)
Hohoe United will seek back-to-back wins when they host Swedru All Blacks at the Hohoe Stadium.
Their 4–1 thrashing of Karela United last weekend was a statement of intent.
All Blacks, however, arrive desperate for a result after consecutive defeats.
The visitors have managed just one win this season and must improve in front of goal.
A win for Hohoe would keep their bright start alive and boost their confidence ahead of a tough trip to Dormaa.
Hearts of Oak vs Heart of Lions (Monday)
Hearts of Oak take on league leaders Heart of Lions in what promises to be a fascinating top-of-the-table clash.
The Phobians are unbeaten but have struggled in attack, netting only twice in four matches.
Lions, on the other hand, have been the league’s surprise package, unbeaten with three wins and one draw.
Their resilience was on full display in last weekend’s goalless draw against Kotoko in Kumasi.
A win for either side could reshape the title race narrative early on.
