Antony’s Transfer to Real Betis in Jeopardy
Antony’s anticipated €25 million transfer from Manchester United to Real Betis has hit a snag, with the deal’s approval awaiting the Glazer family, as indicated by the CEO of the Spanish club, Ramos Alcaron.
Impressive Loan Spell
During his six-month tenure on loan at Real Betis, Antony made a notable impact, netting nine goals and delivering five assists across 26 appearances.
Mutual Interest in the Move
Antony has expressed a strong desire to rejoin Betis, reportedly declining multiple offers from other clubs in Europe throughout the summer.
Agreement Reached, But Tensions Remained
An agreement was made between Betis and Manchester United just prior to the transfer deadline, yet uncertainty lingered as Betis awaited the Glazers’ endorsement.
Alcaron shared insights with ABC Sevilla, stating, “At one point, it seemed the transfer was slipping away due to Manchester United’s challenging stance. We were apart by €5 to €6 million, reaching the brink of our budget. Ultimately, all parties made concessions, including the player and United.”
He recalled the tense environment during a match against Athletic, saying, “On Sunday, around noon, United forwarded the draft contract asking us to implement certain alterations. It became apparent they would accommodate our requests.”
Resolution of Complications
In his remarks, Alcaron added, “We received the green light early Sunday at 2 am. By morning, we finalized the financial arrangements for Antony’s future appreciation, ensuring we could recover our expenditure, which was a significant hurdle we overcame.”
He continued, “It was at 2 am on Sunday that matters began to resolve, prompting us to arrange a flight for him to arrive on Monday afternoon. Even though everything was agreed upon, we had to wait for a signature from the Manchester United owners in the United States, which finally came through at 3 pm on Monday.”
