Glazers Delay Antony’s €25m Exit from Manchester United Ahead of Real Betis Return Deadline

Antony’s Transfer Saga: Uncertainty Surrounds Move to Real Betis
Antony’s anticipated €25 million transfer from Manchester United to Real Betis has encountered complications, as the Glazer family postponed the transaction, according to the CEO of the Spanish team, Ramos Alcaron.
Impressive Loan Spell
Antony made a significant impact during his six-month loan at Real Betis, netting nine goals and contributing five assists across 26 matches.
Mutual Interest in a Return
The interest from both sides appears strong, with Antony reportedly expressing a desire to rejoin Betis throughout the summer, even rejecting multiple proposals from other teams in Europe.
Deal Finalization Challenges
An agreement between Real Betis and Manchester United was finally secured just before the transfer deadline, but concerns lingered over the Glazer family’s approval.
Comments from Ramos Alcaron
Alcaron shared insights with ABC Sevilla, stating, “There was a time when we thought the deal might fall through due to United’s challenging position. There was a gap of €5-6 million, and we were already at our limit. Ultimately, we all made concessions, including the player and United.”
He added, “During the match against Athletic on Sunday, the atmosphere was quite tense. By midday, United sent the revised contract draft and requested modifications, clearly indicating a willingness to meet our conditions.”
In a further update, he mentioned, “At 2 a.m. on Sunday, we finally received confirmation. By morning, we finalized the financial aspects regarding Antony’s capital gains for a smooth investment recovery, which was a challenging issue but ultimately resolved.”
Finalizing the Transfer
Alcaron recounted, “It was at 2 a.m. on Sunday when the situation finally cleared, allowing us to start arranging a flight for him to arrive on Monday afternoon. There was still some anxiety as we awaited the Manchester United owners in the U.S. to sign off, which they did by 3 p.m. Monday.”
