FIFA President Urged to Prioritize Affordable Tickets for 2026 World Cup

FSA’s Response to Infantino’s Comments

The Football Supporters’ Association has called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to shift his focus from making “light-hearted jokes” about British supporters to ensuring accessible ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup.

Infantino’s Remarks at the World Economic Forum

During his address at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Thursday, Infantino highlighted that it was “truly remarkable” that there were no arrests of British nationals during the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar. He tackled various challenges anticipated for the upcoming tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including potential domestic unrest in the US, visa complications for fans, and ticket affordability.

Infantino reflected on the criticisms faced prior to the Qatar 2022 event but noted that once the tournament commenced, “virtually no incidents” occurred. He added, “For the first time in history, no British individual was arrested during a World Cup,” and he emphasized, “Imagine! This is something exceptionally special.”

FSA’s Call for Action

In light of Infantino’s comments, the Football Supporters’ Association responded by stating, “While Mr. Infantino has captured our attention, we urge him to focus less on making trivial jokes about our supporters and more on providing affordable ticket options.”
