Ghana’s Black Starlets Step Up Preparations in Yamoussoukro Ahead of WAFU U17 Opener

Ghana’s U17 side, the Black Starlets, are putting the finishing touches on their preparations in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, as they gear up for the WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

The squad held a lively training session on Thursday — their second since arriving — as head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum fine-tuned tactics and emphasized conditioning.

The drills placed particular attention on set-piece execution, tactical organization, and team chemistry, with the players responding with sharpness and intensity.

The mood in camp is buoyant, boosted by the fact that there are no injury setbacks. Every player is fully fit and available for Saturday’s opening match against Togo, which will be staged at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.

Coach Ogum voiced optimism after training, noting the commitment of his charges: “The boys are focused and working hard. We are polishing the final details, and by Saturday, I am confident we will be ready to make Ghana proud” he said in an interview with ghanafa.org

Ghana have been drawn in Group A, alongside hosts Ivory Coast and Niger, in addition to their first opponents, Togo. The competition, scheduled from September 20 to October 3, doubles as the regional qualifier for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations.

With a decorated history in youth football, the Black Starlets are chasing not only a ticket to the continental stage but also a return to regional dominance.

Their campaign begins against Togo this Saturday, before facing Ivory Coast and Niger in the remaining group fixtures.
