Ghana, Nigeria, And Côte d’Ivoire Could Team Up To Host FIFA World Cup

Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire could potentially join forces to bid for a future FIFA World Cup, following comments from Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.

The proposal would see three West African football powerhouses pool resources and infrastructure to stage the global tournament.

The idea aligns with football’s growing trend of multi-nation hosting, already seen in recent FIFA competitions.

“They [FIFA] are beginning to adapt a number of nations doing it so maybe who knows, the next one would be Ghana, Nigeria, and then Côte d’lvoire coming together to also host the World Cup, and it will be good,” Adams said.

He added, “I believe that we, together with Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, who have already invested quite a lot because they hosted AFCON not too long ago. We can also ask for that right.”

Ghana has won four Africa Cup of Nations titles, Nigeria three, and Côte d’Ivoire recently hosted and won the 2023 AFCON.

Ghana last hosted a major event in 2024 with the delayed 2023 African Games, further proving the country’s readiness for large-scale tournaments.

Nigeria and Ghana previously co-hosted the 2000 AFCON, the first such collaboration in the tournament’s history.
