Ghana Football Association Launches Successful Football4Girls Initiative

Effia Kuma Hosts Women’s Football Development Program

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has effectively conducted the Football4Girls initiative in Effia Kuma, located within the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly in the Western Region. This initiative is part of the GFA’s broader Women’s Football Strategy, focused on fostering young female athletes and ensuring that all girls can engage in football without facing obstacles.

Key Support from Community Leaders

The event received robust backing from prominent figures, including members of the Western Regional Football Association Executive Council. Notable attendees included women’s representative Madam Amy Fyn-Thompson, Michael Quarshie, who serves as the District Football Association Chairman for Effia Kwesimintsim, Boniface Anwilo, the Western Regional P.E. and Sports Coordinator, and Richard Ankama, the P.E. and Sports Coordinator for the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.

Furthermore, local educators and administrators, such as Daniel Kotei Ashie, Emmanuel Koomson, George A. Skah, Bright Cdjoe, Razak Moro, and Ebenezer Amoako, also showed their support, highlighting the community’s dedication to empowering girls through sports.

Engaging Schools and Participants

Participating institutions included Rev Dunwell Methodist School, Rev Grant Methodist School, Effia Kuma Methodist Basic School, Good Shepherd Anglican School, Nana Brempong Yaw School, Whindo MA School, Whindo Assakae MA School, Anaji Estate Key School, Anaji M/A School, and Lagos Town M/A School, showcasing a lively array of enthusiastic students eager to learn football.

Inspirational Leadership and Activities

The program was led by Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, the Head of Women’s Football Development. During the event, she presented the goals, vision, and mission of the Women’s Football Strategy to both parents and students. Sarpong encouraged parents to offer their support, resources, and constructive communication to foster their daughters’ involvement in football. She also shared motivational success stories to inspire the young participants.

Various Activities for Engagement

The day’s events included enjoyable games, a physical education session, and the distribution of T-shirts and football gear. These activities were created to raise awareness and cultivate an inviting atmosphere for girls, promoting their enjoyment and learning of the sport.

Commitment to Grassroots Development

The GFA reiterated its dedication to promoting women’s football at the grassroots level through the Grassroots Football: Football4Girls Project, labeling the Effia Kuma event as an important milestone in advancing the women’s game in Ghana.
