Getafe Player Demands Ten-Match Ban for Antonio Rudiger Following On
Disappointing Loss for Alvaro Arbaloa’s Team
Unexpected Defeat at Home
Alvaro Arbaloa’s squad experienced an unexpected 1-0 loss to Getafe during their match at the Santiago Bernabeu. This defeat allows their rivals, Barcelona, to extend their lead at the top of La Liga to four points.
Key Player Incident
Rudiger, 32, faced challenges on the field and was involved in a controversial moment where he appeared to hit Rico in the face with his knee while the Getafe player was on the ground.
Call for Accountability
In an interview with Deportes COPE after the match, a visibly upset Rico called for the league to respond.
Rico stated: “Had the roles been reversed, I would likely have faced a 10-game ban, or perhaps I wouldn’t play at all this season. I question the purpose of VAR when scenarios like this occur.”
He added, “This was an attack; it’s clear he aimed to hit me deliberately. We had a previous altercation that resulted in a foul, and on his way back to defend, he was verbally provoking me.”
Rico continued, “In the play following that, the ball came to me, and you can see him even pushing a teammate away to get to me. If I hadn’t been cautious, the outcome could have been much worse.”
