During an appearance on the Rio Ferdinand presents podcast, Gerrard stated: “I haven’t been prepared as I don’t have my coaching team in place yet. The timing hasn’t aligned for me.”
“My daughter just welcomed a baby, making me a grandfather. I wasn’t ready to dive back in. My staff wasn’t in place.”
“Regrettably, the opportunities that have arisen haven’t matched up with my circumstances, if you will.”
“However, if the right opportunity presents itself with the appropriate club and a challenge that excites me, and I have my team ready, I would embrace that challenge because it’s something I genuinely want.”
Areas for Growth
Gerrard managed Rangers from 2018 to 2021, culminating in a league title victory in his final year.
“I am aware of my strengths and recognize the areas where I need strong support and specific skills from my staff to enhance my effectiveness,” he explained.
“I felt well-supported at Rangers (with Gary McAllister and Michael Beale). The frequent changes at Aston Villa and Saudi Arabia were not beneficial from a personal growth perspective.”
“I would love another shot at management in the future.”
“I want to make adjustments and improve a few aspects before returning, ideally with a new group of colleagues.”
“I’m eager for additional challenges, which I am preparing for behind the scenes.”
“I’m exploring different ideas and seeking different perspectives around me.
“At the moment, I’m enjoying spending time with my family and engaging in activities I’ve been unable to enjoy previously. Yet, there’s a part of me that feels there’s unfinished business and an eagerness to tackle more exciting challenges.”
