Germany’s Team Manager Urges Ter Stegen to Seek New Club in January
Voller’s Vision for Ter Stegen
Germany’s national team manager, Rudi Voller, is eager to see goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen move on from Barcelona during the January transfer window. Voller emphasizes that Ter Stegen is the top choice for Germany’s goalkeeper position, but he needs to be a regular starter after his upcoming back surgery recovery to secure his spot for the World Cup.
Challenges at Barcelona
Currently, Ter Stegen faces stiff competition from Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, both of whom are preferred options at Barcelona. This situation makes a January transfer crucial for Ter Stegen’s chances to participate in next summer’s World Cup.
Voller’s Statements
In a recent interview with Sky Deutschland, Voller stated, “A goalkeeper of Ter Stegen’s caliber rightly deserves to be part of the World Cup squad. While (Oliver) Baumann has performed exceptionally as a backup, Ter Stegen should be our first-choice keeper.”
He added, “I hope to see him back on the pitch quickly, whether with Barcelona or another club, starting in January. That’s vital at this time. To regain his place on the national team, playing time is essential.”
Voller concluded, “He understands the significant opportunity ahead, and if he returns, there is a strong possibility he will be our goalkeeper for the upcoming World Cup. This is beneficial for all involved.”
