Galli Cautions AC Milan About Pursuing Zirkzee: A Poor Fit for Our Needs
Concerns Over Signing Manchester United Striker
Filippo Galli, a former player for AC Milan, has voiced his concerns regarding the club’s potential interest in signing Josh Zirkzee, a striker currently on the books of Manchester United.
Milan has shown interest in the ex-Bologna forward, who is reportedly available for transfer in the upcoming January window.
The Player Debate: Zirkzee vs. Vlahovic
In his comments featured on MilanNews.it, Galli highlighted two names under consideration for AC Milan: Dusan Vlahovic and Zirkzee.
Vlahovic is my preferred choice,
Galli remarked, referring to the Serbian striker currently playing for Juventus.
However, I doubt Juventus would allow him to leave, especially considering his contract situation, as he would bolster a key rival in the Champions League qualification race.
Galli further elaborated, expressing skepticism about the feasibility of signing Vlahovic, citing potential salary demands and agent fees as possible obstacles that have historically deterred AC Milan from such high-profile signings.
Critical Evaluation of Zirkzee
Galli made it clear that he does not believe Zirkzee would remedy Milan’s current issues. He pointed out that the striker’s goal-scoring record has been inconsistent:
In the 2021-22 season, he found the net 15 times in 32 matches for Anderlecht, but his scoring has significantly declined at Bologna and now at Manchester.
Despite acknowledging Zirkzee’s technical skills and elegance, Galli views him more as a facilitator in attack rather than a lethal finisher.
He is more of a team-oriented player who enjoys participating in build-up play and creating space for teammates,
he commented, noting the Dutchman’s playing style.
Galli’s insights suggest a cautious approach to the transfer market, advocating for strategic choices to address AC Milan’s needs effectively.
