Frankfurt Exits the Competition for West Ham Striker Fullkrug Before January Transfer Window
Frankfurt Withdraws Interest in Niclas Fullkrug, Leaving West Ham Reeling
According to emerging reports from Sky Deutschland, Frankfurt has officially decided to no longer pursue Niclas Fullkrug, marking a significant setback for West Ham.
Striker’s Struggles at West Ham
Sky Sports transfer specialist Florian Plettenberg highlighted last month that the German forward is eager to depart the Hammers in the next transfer period.
This follows an underwhelming performance from the 31-year-old attacker, who has managed to net only three goals in 26 matches since he transferred from Borussia Dortmund for £27 million in 2024.
A Return to Germany Appears Favorable
The veteran striker is inclined to return to his homeland, with the Bundesliga appearing to offer him a viable path to rejuvenate his career in its later stages. However, reports indicate that Frankfurt has pulled out of the running, opting against pursuing the seasoned player, who has struggled to meet the lofty expectations placed on him during his time in the Premier League.
With a dismal record of zero goals in eight appearances—five of which were starts—Fullkrug does not currently attract much interest from clubs. Nevertheless, a move back to the Bundesliga, where his scoring opportunities could increase, might see him replicate the form that once attracted West Ham.
West Ham’s Need for New Blood in Attack
To maintain their position in the Premier League, West Ham will need to fill the void left by Fullkrug in the January transfer window. Reports suggest that Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League might entertain offers for Ivan Toney, potentially providing a solution for the London club’s attacking woes.
