Frank Asserts to Tel: Spurs Must Retain Your Talent
Tottenham’s Thomas Frank Refuses to Let Mathys Tel Leave This Month
French Forward Linked to Paris FC
Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has emphasized that the club is not in a position to permit Mathys Tel to depart this month. The young French striker has attracted interest from Paris FC in Ligue 1, who are keen on securing him on loan for the remainder of the season.
Manager’s Perspective on Squad Depth
Frank articulated his concerns in a statement made on Friday:
“It’s fair to say we don’t have a large squad,” he remarked. “The players we currently have are crucial for us. In the match against Dortmund, with limited players available, it becomes challenging to influence the game or maintain the energy levels.”
Competition for Squad Positions
Tel has been excluded from Tottenham’s Champions League lineup for the second half of the season in favor of a fit Dominic Solanke.
“It’s a tough situation for Mathys,” Frank acknowledged. “My dilemma was that it had to be a choice between him and Dom; I couldn’t substitute anyone else. If I could have made a different choice, I would have.”
Acknowledging Player Contributions
Frank clarified that the decision was strictly tactical:
“It’s unfortunate but ultimately a decision based on footballing logic. It doesn’t reflect my feelings toward Mathys, who I hold in high regard. I opted for Dom due to his experience, and thankfully, he performed well.”
Frank further noted the implications of this decision on Tel, stating, “Naturally, this has an impact on others, particularly Mathys. He has every right to feel disappointed, but he has remained very professional throughout this process. He is a resilient individual.”
Despite the situation, Frank highlighted Tel’s contributions to the team:
“He has performed admirably for us in many aspects and has started four of the last five matches, which shows that I have confidence in him and believe he can achieve significant things.”
