Former Werder Bremen Coach Schaaf Calls Woltemade’s Transfer to Newcastle Unbelievable

Ex-Werder Bremen coach Schaaf: Woltemade Newcastle move just surreal

Thomas Schaaf Surprised by Nick Woltemade’s Rapid Rise

Former head coach and sporting director of Werder Bremen, Thomas Schaaf, expressed his astonishment over the remarkable development of Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade.

Woltemade’s Journey

Woltemade departed from Werder Bremen to join VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer before moving to Newcastle this summer in a transfer worth €90 million.

Schaaf’s Thoughts

Schaaf shared his insights in an interview with BILD:
“This situation is truly surreal. Nick should not be held responsible for the excitement surrounding this transfer. He is an intelligent young man with great potential. The swift nature of this transfer is beyond what anyone expected—neither in Stuttgart nor at Werder could we have predicted this.”

He continued, “It was evident from early on that he possessed the qualities necessary for the Bundesliga. Yet, anyone who believed that he would command such a hefty fee at this stage should reconsider their judgments. It’s not uncommon for evaluations to be off-track at certain moments; I’ve experienced that myself.”
