Former Newcastle Defender Dummett Declares Retirement

Former Newcastle United Player Paul Dummett Announces Retirement

A Career Transition

Paul Dummett, the former defender for Newcastle United, has officially declared his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. This decision comes after he was unable to secure a new club following his exit from Carlisle United in the summer.

Career Highlights

Dummett enjoyed a successful spell at Newcastle, where he made over 200 appearances before departing from St James’ Park last year. After signing with Carlisle in January, his time there was cut short when the team faced relegation from the Football League.

A Personal Message

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Dummett reflected on his career, stating, “As I turn 34 this year, even though I still feel physically capable of playing, the moment has arrived for me to step away from the game.”

He conveyed a mix of emotions, saying, “There’s a profound sadness, and I’m aware that I will miss the sport that I cherish. However, looking back at my journey, I feel an immense sense of pride.”

Dummett expressed his gratitude, adding, “I recognize how fortunate I have been to realize the dreams of many.”

He extended his thanks to teammates, coaches, managers, and staff from clubs including Newcastle, Gateshead, St Mirren, Wigan, and Carlisle, stating, “To everyone I’ve worked with, thank you.”

Dummett concluded with a message to the supporters, “It was an honor to play for you, and I always strived to give my best in every match. Although I’m stepping away as a player, I will now return as a fan. I’ll forever cherish the experience of living my childhood dream.”
