Egypt Backs Salah Amid Liverpool Tensions
Support for Mohamed Salah
Former assistant coach of the Egyptian national team, Diaa El-Sayed, has voiced that the nation stands firmly with star player Mohamed Salah, especially regarding his recent issues with Liverpool’s management.
Recent Developments at Liverpool
Salah was reintegrated into the squad by manager Arne Slot for the recent victory against Brighton. However, Slot had previously excluded him from the Champions League match against Inter Milan due to Salah’s critical comments towards him and the club’s higher-ups following a match against Leeds.
Egypt’s Unwavering Support
Now preparing to represent Egypt ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), El-Sayed expressed strong national backing for Salah.
“This interview sparked a significant shift in emotions across Egypt,” stated El-Sayed, who has been acquainted with Salah since his teenage years, during a discussion with BBC Sport.
He further noted, “The majority of Egyptians—nearly 99%—are in support of Salah, and it’s evident from the enthusiastic response he receives from Liverpool fans as well.”
Future with Liverpool
El-Sayed also shared his thoughts on the possibility of Salah leaving Liverpool in January, expressing confidence that the club will not part ways with the renowned forward.
In reference to Salah’s gesture of farewell to the Anfield crowd after the Brighton match, El-Sayed remarked, “Rest assured, it’s simply a temporary goodbye.”
