Former Chievo President Campedelli Reveals Negotiations for Drogba and Cavani
Chievo Verona’s Former President Reflects on Missed Drogba Signing
Former Chievo Verona president, Luca Campedelli, has shared his regrets over the club’s failure to secure Didier Drogba’s signature.
A Missed Opportunity for Chievo
Campedelli disclosed that Chievo was in discussions to bring Drogba on board prior to his transfer from Marseille to Chelsea.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, he stated: “Back in 2002, Drogba was set to join Chievo. The only requirement was to sell Eriberto and (Christian) Manfredini, but that deal fell through.”
Other Noteworthy Missed Transfers
This wasn’t the sole instance of Campedelli’s near-miss in high-profile signings while at Chievo. He recounted another incident: “In 2006, Edinson Cavani trained with our team, but according to then-sporting director Giovanni Sartori and several coaching staff members, he didn’t justify the €500,000 investment.”
