Former Barcelona Defender Carreras: Rashfords Transfer Price Is Unjustifiable

Former fullback for Barcelona and Real Mallorca, Lluis Carreras, has recommended that the Catalan club should rethink their intention to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis.

Rashford’s Current Situation

The English forward is currently enjoying a season-long loan at Barcelona from Manchester United, which includes an option for a permanent transfer valued at €30 million.

Following a recent win against Celta Vigo, Rashford expressed his satisfaction with his current role, stating,

I’m thriving here at Barça. We must adhere to the plan that (coach Hansi) Flick has laid out. I feel fantastic, and my first assist today was possibly my best contribution yet.

Concerns Over Financial Outlay

Despite Rashford’s positive performance, Carreras is skeptical about the wisdom of investing such a substantial fee given Barcelona’s current financial difficulties. He spoke on the program Carrusel, asserting,

If the aim is to pursue a top-tier striker, Rashford may not be the best choice, particularly if financial resources are limited.

Carreras continued,

Rashford should not be the top priority for Barcelona. The proposed €30 million is a significant investment, especially in light of the club’s current circumstances.
