Bartomeu Calls for Change in Leadership Amid Presidential Race

Laporta is competing against Victor Font in the upcoming presidential election this month.

A Call for New Leadership

Bartomeu expressed to EFE, “It is time to initiate a shift in leadership at the club and to welcome younger individuals with fresh perspectives.” He feels that the era of the 2003 generation, which includes himself, Sandro Rosell, and Laporta, has concluded.

He further stated, “At times, it is essential to make significant changes, to clear out the old and allow new generations and ideas to enter.”

Criticism of Laporta’s Tenure

Bartomeu has been particularly vocal regarding Laporta’s inability to retain Lionel Messi.

He remarked, “The most difficult decision was his exit.”

“It is truly heartbreaking to bid farewell to the best player in history, who still possessed a great deal of talent and would have seamlessly integrated with our current successful crop of young players from La Masia.”
