Currently located in Saudi Arabia for the Super Cup semifinal against Athletic Bilbao, coach Julian Nagelsmann provided an update regarding the ongoing negotiations.

Coach’s Comments

He mentioned, “I have been in communication with my team. If Ronald Araujo returns, we will have sufficient options in the center-back role. However, it’s important to note that the deal for Cancelo isn’t finalized yet.”

He went on to express enthusiasm about the potential agreement, stating, “Should it go through, I would be pleased as it would enhance our attacking possibilities. He is a talented player with a lot to offer.”

Financial Strategy and Youth Development

Nagelsmann shared insight into the club’s strategy regarding player acquisitions: “You are well aware of our situation. We had to be prudent with new signings, unlike other clubs that can spend freely on transfers.”

He added, “For the club at this stage, it was crucial to provide opportunities to younger players. We have faith in their abilities, and now we find ourselves in a position to acquire a high-caliber, experienced attacking player. I would be absolutely delighted if we are able to secure him.”
