Fernandes Expresses Anger Over Blocked Move to Spurs As Man Utd Captain

Bruno Fernandes Reveals Tottenham’s Interest Before Manchester United Move

Captain’s Regret Over Transfer Situation

Manchester United’s skipper, Bruno Fernandes, has disclosed that he had intentions to join Tottenham Hotspur prior to making his transfer to Manchester United.

Spurs Expressed Interest

Fernandes revealed that Spurs were keen on acquiring him before his transition from Sporting Lisbon to United in 2020.

What He Said About the Situation

In an interview with Amazon Prime, he explained, “The situation began in the summer. Tottenham showed a significant interest in me, and I even met with their representatives. Everything was set, but Sporting opted against my transfer.”

Emotional Conversations

He further expressed, “President (Federico) Varandas brought me a lot of disappointment. We had discussions later after the closure of the English transfer window, but circumstances shifted by January. Following the departures of Raphinha and Bas Dost, Sporting faced financial hardships; they needed to sell me, and then United’s proposal came through.”

A Dream Realized

Fernandes reminisced about the moment he learned of the Manchester United offer: “I was in my room changing, and my wife had tears in her eyes. She was concerned, asking me if something was wrong. I couldn’t even respond to her because, for me, it felt like living out a dream.”

He added, “Manchester United has always been my favorite club. Receiving that call six months after I believed it was no longer an option, only to discover the offer was from my dream team, was absolutely incredible.”
