Federico Chiesa Considering Return to Italy as Liverpool Eyes Antoine Semenyo
Chiesa remains sidelined at Liverpool, having only participated in two matches as a starter in the Carabao Cup under coach Arne Slot, despite the team’s recent lackluster performance.
The Italian forward moved to Liverpool from Juventus during a transfer that seemed like a steal in the summer of 2024. However, his potential has not been fully recognized by Slot, leading to frustration among fans and pundits alike.
As reported by various outlets in Italy, the winger is now contemplating a return to Serie A, with clubs such as Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, and Roma reportedly interested in acquiring him, given that he remains in his prime.
Liverpool has also expressed interest in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, especially considering his £65m release clause. This development suggests that Slot may see Semenyo as a suitable replacement for Chiesa, given the latter’s struggles to secure a spot in the starting eleven.
Competition for Semenyo Heats Up
While Liverpool aims to land Semenyo, they face stiff competition from Manchester United and Manchester City. Journalist Florian Plettenburg indicated earlier this week that Liverpool is currently leading the pursuit, which may further diminish Chiesa’s chances of regular playtime.
Plettenburg reported:
Liverpool is actively pursuing Antoine Semenyo for the upcoming winter transfer window, and discussions have already commenced. The club is aware of his release clause, approximately €70 million.
The Reds are eager for his services, but they are not the only players in this market, as other prominent English clubs are also in the mix. Notably, Bayern Munich is not competing for his signature at this time.
Semenyo has had an impressive season so far, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 11 matches, and could play a pivotal role in revitalizing Liverpool’s campaign.
