Everton Legend Nevin Reflects on Timing for Scotland Discussion with Moyes
Insight from Pat Nevin on Moyes’ Future
Pat Nevin, a celebrated figure in Everton’s history, envisions a future where current Toffees manager David Moyes might step into the role of Scotland’s national team manager.
Two Key Roles for Moyes
Nevin shared his views on the ideal positions for Moyes, stating,
It’s all about the right timing. There are two roles that David Moyes is perfectly suited for. Scotland ranks as the second in importance, but the primary role he would fit is with Celtic.
A Long History With Celtic
Reflecting on their shared past, Nevin mentioned,
Since we were young teens, both he and I came up through the ranks at Celtic. Our connection dates back to when I was around 13 or 14 years old.
A Natural Leader
He continued,
Moyes has had “manager” written all over him from a young age. Even at 15, it was clear he was a leader, as he captained the team. His demeanor has always suggested he should take the helm at Celtic, though the opportunity has never quite aligned.
Missed Opportunities
There were certainly moments when he would have accepted the position without hesitation, but at those times, Celtic had a manager who was performing well. Conversely, during times when Moyes might have been ready, the situation did not permit him to take the job.
Future Possibilities
Finally, Nevin noted,
As we approach the end of the season, there is a chance that the current Scotland manager, Stevie Clarke, might seek another opportunity. If the conditions are optimal, Moyes could come into consideration. However, given his current passion for his work at Everton, I doubt the timing will ever align perfectly for that to happen.
