Evan Ferguson: The New Roma Striker Inspired by Football Legends

Meet Evan Ferguson, the new Roma striker who draws inspiration from football greats like Harry Kane to rekindle his career on Italian soil. This Irish forward has his eyes set on a scoring spree in Serie A, aiming to net 20 goals this season.

The Big Move

Once hailed as the “next Kane,” the 20-year-old Irish striker is known for his knack of cherry-picking the best traits from legendary forwards like Kane, Robert Lewandowski, Luis Suarez, and more. After joining Roma on loan from Brighton with a €38 million (£32m/$41m) buy option, Ferguson is all set to make his mark in his debut season with the Giallorossi.

Reclaiming the Spotlight

Back in 2023, Ferguson was one of the Premier League’s brightest young talents post a breakout season with Brighton. His value skyrocketed to £100 million, attracting top Premier League clubs all ready to break the bank for him. However, a string of injuries and a lackluster loan stint at West Ham saw him slip from the limelight. Now, under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma, Ferguson is hell-bent on reclaiming his potential.

Ferguson gave a sneak peek of his capabilities in his first match as a Roma player. The Irish prodigy scored four goals, including a 24-minute first-half hat-trick, and assisted another in Roma’s 9-0 rout of Serie D side UniPomezia on July 25.

Ferguson’s Own Words

In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferguson shared his thoughts on his move to AS Roma and his expectations following a few disappointing seasons in England. “I don’t usually think about an exact number of goals. I definitely want to score in every game, even though I know it’s not easy. Twenty goals? Let’s hope…” he said.

When asked about any center forward he admires, Ferguson responded, “I try to learn from the best: Kane, Suarez, Ibrahimovic, and Lewandowski.”

What’s Next for Ferguson?

As Ferguson continues his quest for a regular starting spot, Roma is scheduled to take on Aston Villa in a pre-season friendly at Bescot Stadium on Wednesday. With his form and focus regained, Roma fans might soon witness the revival of one of Europe’s most exciting young prospects.
