Emmanuel Petit Urges Chelsea to Snatch Emiliano Martinez from Manchester United’s Grasp
Emiliano Martinez, the world-renowned Argentine goalkeeper, has been causing a stir in the football world. His name has been linked with Manchester United ever since the transfer window opened. Despite United’s loan bid being turned down by Aston Villa, Martinez is still on the radar of the Red Devils. But former Chelsea and France star Emmanuel Petit has a different idea. He’s urging Chelsea to swoop in and snatch Martinez away for a cool £40 million.
Petit’s Plea for Chelsea to Sign Martinez
Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has been under fire due to several criticisms during the 2025-26 campaign. This led to the Blues eyeing Martinez earlier in the summer. Now, Emmanuel Petit, a beloved former Blues player, is urging Chelsea to take action and secure the Argentine goalkeeper.
Petit’s Words of Wisdom
In a recent interview with EscapistMagazine.com, Petit expressed his thoughts on the matter: “Emiliano Martinez would be an inspiration in the Chelsea dressing room. I have criticised his behaviour in the past but he knows what it takes to win titles, he has that experience. He can inspire other players and he has all the qualities needed of a top goalkeeper. He would be a very good signing for Chelsea and 32 isn’t old for a goalkeeper. I think he’d link well with Enzo Maresca and the players already at the club. One fear I have is for Aston Villa, I am worried about them with top players leaving the club, I’m not sure where it will leave them next season.”
The Bigger Picture
Following Aston Villa’s rejection of United’s loan bid, rumours have surfaced that the Saudi Pro League is showing strong interest in Martinez. However, the Argentina national team is reportedly against him moving out of Europe, especially with the World Cup title defence in North America just a year away.
Chelsea’s Future Plans
At the moment, Chelsea seems to be focusing on offloading some of their unwanted players after heavy spending on new arrivals during the summer transfer window. The club has prepared a ‘bomb squad’ of nine players, including stars like Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, whom they intend to sell.
