Upcoming ELCLASICO: Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona
One of the premier events in the world of sports is nearly upon us, as Real Madrid gears up to face FC Barcelona in the inaugural ELCLASICO of the 2025/26 LALIGA EA SPORTS season.
Current Standings
The two teams are closely positioned in the league table, with Real Madrid leading the pack with 24 points, closely pursued by Barcelona, who sit on 22 points. The much-anticipated match is set for Sunday at 16:15 CET, taking place at the Santiago Bernabéu, where Real Madrid has maintained a perfect record, winning all four of their home league fixtures this season. Notably, both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have yet to lose any points while playing at home this term.
Real Madrid’s Determination to Break Losing Streak
Real Madrid enters this pivotal match in strong form, having secured victories in eight of their nine league outings thus far. They are eager to end a disheartening streak of losses against Barcelona, having lost their last four encounters with their rivals. Last season saw Barcelona dominate their matchups, winning four consecutive times in all competitions, which included two wins in LALIGA EA SPORTS.
In their previous matches last season, Barcelona triumphed with a 4-0 victory at the Bernabéu, followed by a 5-2 win in the Spanish Super Cup, another close 3-2 win in the Copa del Rey final, and finally a thrilling 4-3 victory in their second league meeting in the 2024/25 season.
Real Madrid is keen to turn the tide and end this four-match losing run against Barcelona. With eight consecutive league victories at home, they are poised to secure their ninth home league win in a row. Their last league defeat at home occurred back in early April when Valencia CF managed to snag a 2-1 win at the Bernabéu.
That defeat was one of just two home losses Real Madrid experienced last season, the other being at the hands of FC Barcelona. Impressively, no team accrued more home points than Real Madrid, who achieved 49 points from 19 matches, winning 16 of those games.
FC Barcelona on the Comeback Trail
After experiencing a rough patch with a 2-1 home defeat by Paris Saint-Germain and a heavy 4-1 loss to Sevilla FC before the international break, FC Barcelona regrouped to secure a crucial victory against Girona FC, winning 2-1. Pedri scored the opener just 13 minutes into the match, while Ronald Araújo secured the win with a stoppage-time goal.
Following the morale-boosting win over Girona, Barcelona delivered an impressive 6-1 demolition of Olympiacos in the Champions League, with Fermín López achieving a hat-trick—the first by a Spanish player for FC Barcelona in the competition. Marcus Rashford also shone, scoring two goals while Lamine Yamal successfully converted a penalty.
The return of Lamine Yamal from injury adds significant strength to the team ahead of ELCLASICO. Despite being only 18 years old, the young Spanish international has faced Real Madrid seven times, netting three goals, including strikes in three of FC Barcelona’s four wins against their rivals last season.
Yamal will look to make an impact against Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé, who recently scored the sole goal in Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Getafe CF, making him the first player in LALIGA EA SPORTS this season to reach double figures in goals with 10 strikes in nine league matches. The showdown will determine if Barcelona can continue their winning streak against Real Madrid or if the hosts will find triumph in this highly-anticipated battle.
