Egypt Fall 2-0 to Japan in U20 World Cup Opener

Egypt began their U20 World Cup campaign with a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Japan today at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile.

The Young Pharaohs struggled to find rhythm in their first Group A match.

Both sides shared 50-50 possession in a balanced opening half.

Icihara Rion opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 29th minute to hand Japan the lead.

Egypt pushed forward but failed to create clear chances before halftime.

Their midfield worked tirelessly but lacked precision in the final third.

Japan doubled their advantage early in the second half when Ishii Hisatsugu struck with a sharp finish that caught Egypt’s defence off guard.

The second goal shifted momentum, allowing Japan to dictate the tempo for long spells.

Egypt tried to respond with quick transitions and wide attacks, but their forwards missed key chances to pull one back.

Coach Osama Nabih urged his players to stay aggressive and believe in a comeback, yet Japan’s compact defence held firm and frustrated every attempt.

The defeat marks a disappointing start to Egypt’s U20 World Cup campaign.

They will look to bounce back when they face New Zealand in their second Group A match on 30 September.
