ERFA Successfully Holds 2025 Ordinary Congress in Koforidua
The Eastern Regional Football Association (ERFA) convened its 2025 Ordinary Congress on October 22, 2025, in Koforidua, welcoming crucial figures from the football community at the New Juabeng Municipal Library.
Key Participants and Discussions
The event attracted club officials, coaches, match officials, and football leaders who gathered to review the previous season and strategize on future development plans to enhance football in the region.
Daasebre Adu-Asare, the Regional Football Associations Coordinator from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), represented GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku during the session.
Support for Grassroots Football
In his speech, Daasebre Adu-Asare commended the ERFA for its effective leadership and dedication to grassroots development. He assured attendees of the GFA’s ongoing assistance through funding, technical support, and initiatives aimed at building capacity. Adu-Asare reinforced that the GFA is committed to empowering Regional Football Associations (RFAs) to foster national football growth from the grassroots level.
New Initiatives Introduced by GFA
Delegates received updates on various developmental programs initiated by the GFA, including:
- The KGL-sponsored U-17 Championships;
- Mandatory usage of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards for player identification;
- Monthly financial support for regional associations.
Additionally, the GFA announced provisions for juvenile competitions, which included the distribution of jerseys, footballs, and financial aid of GHS 10,000 for each involved region, alongside similar support for Women’s Division One champions. Furthermore, the GFA has committed GH₵300,000 to cover referee payments across all RFAs.
Investment in Football Development
Another highlight of the Congress was the announcement of a US$200,000 investment from FIFA Forward, dedicated to supplying footballs to Division Two, Division Three, Women’s Division One, and Colts clubs nationwide. Delegates were also informed about ongoing infrastructural enhancements at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence. This includes new training grounds, a state-of-the-art gym, and increased accommodation facilities, all made possible through FIFA’s financial backing.
Enhancing Referee and Coaching Standards
The Congress also showcased the GFA’s dedication to advancing referee and coaching standards. Through the “Catch Them Young” project, over 2,500 young referees have completed training across the country. Additionally, more than 750 coaches have obtained CAF D and B licenses in the past year, further contributing to expertise development at the grassroots level.
