Dramatic Late Equalizer by Oyarzabal Secures Draw for Real Sociedad Against Elche

Late Oyarzabal penalty rescues Real Sociedad LaLiga draw at high-flying Elche

Late Penalty Secures Draw for Real Sociedad Against Elche

Elche continued their winless run, now five matches long, as a late penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal gave Real Sociedad a 1-1 draw. This result ended Sociedad’s six-match winning streak in their direct encounters and kept Elche without an away victory in the current LaLiga season.

Mixed Performances in the Match

Despite their recent struggles, Elche entered the match confident after improving their form at home. Nicolás Fernández forced visiting goalkeeper Álex Remiro into an early save during the opening quarter-hour.

First Half Highlights

Real Sociedad found it difficult to create clear chances in the first half. Their first real threat came from Takefusa Kubo, whose powerful shot from the edge of the box was pushed away by goalkeeper Matías Dituro. Moments later, Elche responded with a quick counterattack and narrowly missed the target.

Elche created another promising chance shortly after, but the effort drifted just wide. Sociedad also tested Elche’s defence late in the half, including a long-range attempt from Oyarzabal that Dituro watched go past the post. The keeper then reacted well again to stop another close-range shot from the captain.

Second Half Action

Real Sociedad entered the second half aiming to extend their good league form. Brais Méndez produced a controlled effort early on, but it went straight into Dituro’s hands. Elche grew stronger after the restart and finally took advantage of a loose ball in the box. After a recycled free-kick, the ball fell to an unmarked forward who struck it cleanly into the net, scoring his first goal of the season.

Late Drama and Equalizing Penalty

Sociedad pushed for a comeback and came close when a header inside the box forced another strong save from Dituro. The hosts struggled to create more chances, but two minutes before full-time the referee awarded a penalty after a foul on Umar Sadiq.

Mikel Oyarzabal stayed calm and scored from the spot, ensuring both teams took a point. Real Sociedad have now avoided defeat in four of their eight matches in which they have trailed.
