Bundesliga Saturday Recap: Thrilling Matches and Surprising Results
The Bundesliga resumed on Saturday (17) with five exciting matches all kicking off at 11:30 AM Brasília time.
Borussia Dortmund vs. St. Pauli: A Narrow Escape
Borussia Dortmund faced the struggling St. Pauli at Signal Iduna Park, where they almost encountered a major setback.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Dortmund struggled to effectively break down a well-organized St. Pauli defense. The visitors managed to generate some threatening counter-attacks despite their overall technical struggles.
Dortmund’s Adeyemi, who had been working hard, finally broke the deadlock, playing a crucial role in setting up Brandt’s goal just before halftime (46′). Brandt continued to shine by assisting Fábio Silva, who then found Adeyemi for the second goal at the 54-minute mark.
St. Pauli refused to back down, pulling one back through Sands’ header (62′). They shocked the home crowd at 72 minutes when Smith-Jones equalized with a brilliant strike.
In a tense finish, a foul outside the area by Jones was reviewed by VAR and turned into a penalty for Dortmund. Emre Can converted the penalty in the 80th minute, sealing the win for Dortmund, who now sit on 39 points, leaving St. Pauli at the bottom with just 12 points.
Hamburg vs. Mönchengladbach: Stalemate at Volksparkstadion
The match at Volksparkstadion ended in a goalless draw, despite Hamburg exerting significant pressure throughout the game.
Hamburg launched an impressive 26 shots, with 12 hitting the target, yet they were unable to capitalize on their chances. Mönchengladbach, in contrast, struggled to even threaten Hamburg’s goalkeeper.
The draw leaves Hamburg with 17 points, extending their winless streak to four matches, placing them 14th in the standings, while Gladbach improved to 20 points and sit at 11th.
Hoffenheim vs. Leverkusen: A Tight Encounter

The only goal of the match came from Burger, who netted shortly after kickoff at the 9-minute mark. Leverkusen attempted to respond with more possession but could not find the net. Hoffenheim had chances to increase their lead but lacked efficiency in front of goal.
This victory propelled Hoffenheim to 33 points, positioning them third in the league, while Leverkusen remained in sixth place with 29 points.
