Di Maria Labels Atletico Madrid as a Graveyard for Argentine Players
Di Maria Critiques Atlético de Madrid’s Treatment of Argentine Players
A Strange Environment
Playing now in Argentina for Rosario Central, Di Maria has labeled Atlético de Madrid as a challenging environment for Argentine footballers.
In a discussion on Radio de la Red, he shared his insights: “It’s a bit unusual over there; that club (Atlético de Madrid) has an odd vibe. When things are going well, they indeed prosper, but seemingly without warning, they suddenly restrain their players.”
Lack of Opportunity for Argentines
Discussing the limited opportunities for players like Julián Álvarez, Thiago Almada, and Nahuel Molina at Atlético, Di Maria remarked, “They tend to fade away. This happens to most of the Argentine players who join. There’s a scarcity of those who consistently maintain starting positions; they just vanish.”
Transformation on the National Stage
Di Maria highlighted a positive aspect of representing the national team: “What’s remarkable about national teams is when they don the light blue and white jersey, they become completely different players. They transform and perform exceptionally well. They relish the chance to play for the national team, which brings me immense joy.”
