Desailly Reflects on Hazards Premature Retirement from Chelsea

Eden Hazard’s Early Retirement Sparks Discussion

Desailly’s Perspective

Former Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly is of the opinion that Eden Hazard ended his football career prematurely. Hazard, who enjoyed significant success during his tenure at Chelsea, faced challenges with his physical condition while at Real Madrid, leading to his retirement at the young age of 32.

Reasons Behind the Decision

Desailly commented on the situation, acknowledging the difficult circumstances surrounding Hazard’s choice. “I believe he stepped away too early, though I can empathize with his situation. He had justifiable reasons,” he shared with The Independent.

The Pressure of Professional Football

“Many perceive football as straightforward, but for the athletes, it involves managing immense pressure, rigorous training, and a demanding lifestyle. When one can no longer handle it, it’s the right moment to step back,” Desailly explained.

Comparing Chelsea and Real Madrid

Having worn the Chelsea jersey from 1998 to 2004, Desailly noted that Hazard lacked the same sense of security at Real Madrid as he did in London.

He elaborated, “At Chelsea, he was shielded and allowed to showcase his skills. However, in Madrid, the expectations were greater—he had to elevate his performance in training, maintain a strict diet, and adapt his daily routine. Perhaps the burden became too much for him to bear.”
