Barcelona’s Deco Assures Fans Amid Lewandowski’s Contract Situation
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, reassured supporters that there is no immediate cause for concern regarding the future of their striking options.
Calm Amid Contract Expiry
With Robert Lewandowski’s contract approaching its conclusion by the end of the season, Deco emphasized the management’s composed stance on the matter.
He stated during an interview with Cataluyna Radio, “Now isn’t the time to discuss contract extensions in October. We prefer to take things one step at a time. Lewandowski is indeed one of the top forwards of this era and has significantly contributed to our success with over 40 goals. However, our current focus is on getting our injured players back on the pitch.”
Rethinking Transfer Strategies
When asked about the possibility of bringing in a new striker, Deco responded thoughtfully: “We shouldn’t be overly fixated on searching for a traditional number ‘9’. We might end up making a mistake. It’s possible to perform effectively without a classic striker in the lineup. This isn’t the moment to delve into transfer discussions. Ferran can also take on the role of a forward.”
He highlighted that even Paris Saint-Germain, the current champions of Europe, managed to clinch the Champions League title without relying on a dedicated striker. Deco remarked, “The discourse surrounding the number ‘9’ can be somewhat misleading, especially given the caliber of players we have. Our squad has the potential of champions, and while we need enhancements, it’s wiser to approach the transfer market with a sense of serenity.”
