Debriefing Transfers: Mo Salah Set to End Liverpool Contract; Manchester United Engaged in Direct Negotiations for Sale; Chelsea Targets Bundesliga Star

Mo Salah’s Liverpool Future in Jeopardy

Mo Salah’s Contract Termination Talks

Mohamed Salah may be on the verge of ending his contract with Liverpool as he seeks a departure from Anfield. Manchester United has reportedly initiated “direct discussions” with a prominent European club regarding a player transfer, and this week’s Transfer Debrief reveals that Chelsea is contemplating a significant acquisition of a coveted Bundesliga talent.

The Mo Salah-Liverpool Situation Grows Tense

There are indications that Salah may have already played his final match for Liverpool, as reports suggest that his representatives are preparing to engage in discussions with the club about a mutual termination of his contract in a drastic step.

The 33-year-old winger, known for his outstanding performances, has faced a dip in form this season. He publicly shared his feelings of being unwelcome at the club, alluding to feeling “thrown under a bus.”

Salah was omitted from Liverpool’s squad for their midweek Champions League encounter against Inter Milan. Current clues suggest that he may not participate against Brighton this weekend, though official announcements are still pending.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey disclosed that Salah’s agents aim to negotiate an early end to his contract, potentially as early as January.

The troubling situation recalls the circumstances surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit from Manchester United in 2022. The Portuguese international left Old Trafford following public criticisms, leading the club to part ways with him as he was no longer wanted by the manager.

Arne Slot, Liverpool’s manager, has minimized claims of a rift with Salah, but a resolution seems far off at this time. It has been reported that Salah feels no obligation to apologize to Slot or the club for his comments.

While Salah’s camp appears adamant about his exit from Anfield, Liverpool insists that they have no plans to let him go this winter, at least for the time being.

Manchester United in Direct Negotiations

Meanwhile, Manchester United might lose a player in the upcoming January transfer window, albeit on their own terms. Insider Fraser Fletcher has revealed that AS Roma has initiated discussions with the Red Devils regarding the acquisition of Joshua Zirkzee.

The young Dutch forward has recently participated in United’s last four Premier League fixtures but only made a brief appearance in the prior match against Wolves. With Benjamin Sesko nearing a return from injury, Zirkzee may find himself further down the order.

The United hierarchy is eager to adjust their attacking strategy around Sesko in the long run and is open to offers in the range of €35-40 million (£30.6-£35 million) for Zirkzee, considering loan deals with mandatory buy options as well.

Roma’s sporting director, Frederic Massara, views Zirkzee as a crucial addition to their forward line. With struggling performances from Artem Dovbyk and Ferguson, the Giallorossi may act swiftly on the Irish player’s loan from Brighton.

While Roma is the frontrunner, they are not the only ones interested, as AC Milan, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Brighton keep an eye on the situation, with Sevilla and PSV Eindhoven also monitoring developments.

Chelsea Eyes Promising Bundesliga Defender

Chelsea is not expected to be highly active during the January transfer window; however, coach Enzo Maresca is keen on bolstering the defense. The club is set to make a move for RB Leipzig’s promising defender, Castello Lukeba.

Lukeba, a 22-year-old who has an international cap with France, is under contract until 2029 but comes with progressive release clauses: €80 million (£70 million) next summer, decreasing to €65 million (£57 million) by 2027.

Notably, German sources indicate that Leipzig may be willing to entertain offers as low as €60 million (£52 million) this winter if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, paving the way for a swift transfer.

Clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich also recognize Lukeba’s potential, but Chelsea is taking steps to outpace the competition. The club is looking to bid between €55-60 million (£48-52 million) soon and believes reaching personal agreements would be seamless.

Bayern Munich poses the most significant competition for Chelsea in acquiring him.

Tottenham Updates and Chelsea’s Striker Plans

Tottenham does not anticipate successfully recruiting Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta in January, despite their interest in the French forward. The Spurs are also not planning to sell center-back Luka Vuskovic, who is currently on loan at Hamburg and has garnered interest from Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

If Brennan Johnson’s form does not improve, Tottenham may consider selling the winger next summer. Meanwhile, Chelsea is deliberating moving forward the arrival of Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha, who is currently set to join in the summer.

Chelsea maintains a strong interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, and discussions have indicated Maignan is keen to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. Additionally, multiple Premier League teams, including Tottenham, West Ham, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City, are eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown.

Bournemouth is exploring options to replace Semenyo, with Ipswich Town’s Jaden Philogene and FC Basel’s Philip Otele as potential candidates.

Liverpool has been in talks with the agents of Borussia Dortmund center-back Nico Schlotterbeck regarding a likely transfer and is also interested in RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande as a potential substitute for Salah.

Additionally, Manchester City is preparing to present an offer exceeding £65 million for Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento, possibly including add-ons or a player such as James Trafford to enhance the deal.
