Frenkie de Jong has expressed that he is aware not everyone within FC Barcelona was in favor of his continuation at the club.

Recently, the Dutch midfielder finalized a new contract that extends his stay with Barcelona until 2029.

Confirmation of Interest in Transfer

In an interview with El País, De Jong shared, “There was a period when certain individuals at the club aimed to transfer me to generate funds. It was around the summer of 2023 or perhaps 2022; I can’t recall precisely.”

De Jong reinforced his dedication to the club by stating, “I always knew I wanted to remain at Barcelona and have been content playing here.

“I was involved in transfer discussions, but I had a clear perspective: my wish was to stay, and I was confident that as long as I was fit, I would get playing time. When you hold a contract and wish to remain, you do so without fear. That’s why I was untroubled.”
